the Origin of Its Name

Bali With The World, INDONESIA. Indonesia is one of the countries in South-East Asia and it’s a country that has thousands of islands that consists of big and small islands. The capital city of Indonesia is Jakarta. Indonesia gained its independence on August 17th 1945 who is proclaimed by Bung Karno as Indonesia's first President with Bung Hatta as Indonesia's first Vice Preident.

According to Indonesia Wikipedia, the word “Indonesia” comes from Ancient Greek, they are “Indus” refers to the Indus river in India and “Nesos” means “Island”. So, the word “Indonesia” means “Indian islands”. It refers to equations between those two nations (Indonesia and India). In 1850, an England ethnologist, George Windsor Earl initially proposed the name Indunesia and Malayunesia for residents of “Hindi Islands or Melayu Islands”.

Since 1990, the name of Indonesia became more general in educations or academics outside of Holland, and the nationalist group of Indonesia used it to express politics. Adolf Bastian from Berlin University popularized this name through the book “Indonesien oder die Inseln des Malayischen Archipels” (1884-1894). Suwardi Suryaningrat (Ki Hajar Dewantara) is the first Indonesian student who used the name of Indonesia. He used it when he set up a news office in Holland named Indonesisch Pers Bureu in 1913.

Nowadays, the President of Indonesia is Mr. Jokowi with his Vice President, Ma’ruf Amin. Indonesia has 34 provinces that each of them have their uniqueness and characteristics. With that large territory, it has rich natural resources. But, as known, the human resources in Indonesia are still weak looked by side of qualities especially in taking advantage of its natural resources.

Indonesia is very rich in its diversity and there are hundreds of local languages and different tribes. Even though, Indonesian is the unifier language of Indonesia. Although the societies of Indonesia live in different tribes, races, and religions, they can live peacefully, and be united. One of the nation unifiers of Indonesia is Pancasila. It is the ideology of Indonesia that means “Five Principles of Indonesia".
